Richard Webster conducts Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boys

Richard Webster conducted the Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boys in their annual Lessons and Carols, December 16, 17, and 20, 2022 at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Grand Rapids, Michigan. These concerts included the premiere of Richard’s new anthem “Be still and know that I am God,” commissioned by the choir in memory of chorister Andrew Lee “Andy” Larson, who, in 2018 was killed in a car accident at the age of 14. Because Andy had sung the solo in “Away in a manger” at the choir’s Lessons and Carols the previous December, that tune is woven into the new work.

“The Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boys is one of the musical treasures of the Midwest. These exceptionally talented boys and volunteer men, led by Music Director Scott Bosscher, have a deservedly passionate, local following. The cavernous cathedral was packed every night with an enthusiastic crowd who shared in the music making with their joyful, robust hymn singing. These were three evenings of transcendent, unforgettable music making.” - Richard Webster
