Honorary Fellowship award from the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) to be conferred on Richard Webster in May, 2011

The Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) has announced its 2011 honorary awards. Richard Webster will receive the Fellowship award (FRSCM) at a ceremony in England's Peterborough Cathedral on May 14, 2011. Fellowships are awarded for achievements of international significance, or exceptional work for the RSCM. From an official RSCM press release:

"Richard Webster is a musician of the highest calibre. He approaches his work with choirs with a freshness and energy that is inspiring for all who work with him. He has directed numerous courses for the RSCM in the USA and has also been involved in RSCM courses in South Africa. He is Organist and Choirmaster Emeritus of St. Luke's Church, Evanston, IL, is the founding Director of Chicago's Bach Week Festival, and in June was named Director of Music and Organist at Trinity Church, Copley Square, Boston."

Other FRSCM recipients for 2011 are the Revd Dr. Carl Daw, hymn-writer and former Director of the Hymn Society; the Rt Revd Timothy Dudley-Smith, hymn-writer and former bishop of Thetford, England; Terence Duffy, former Director of Music at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral; Dr. Donald Hunt, OBE, former Organist of Worcester Cathedral; and Peter Wright, Organist of London's Southwark Cathedral.

Richard is among only 15 Americans to receive the FRSCM since the awards began in 1936. Other English and American recipients include Benjamin Britten, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Herbert Howells, Leo Sowerby, Gerre Hancock and Bruce Neswick.

Welcome to Advent Press, a publisher of sacred music. Why New Traditions in Church Music? Christianity is heir to a glorious musical legacy. Some of the greatest works of all time --  simple and elaborate -- were composed in praise of God. To be faithful stewards of this inheritance is only a beginning. Church music also must speak in new and fresh ways in our own day to those who seek God. Advent Press offers music that is grounded in tradition, even as it seeks to renew and enliven that tradition.

The music of Advent Press is practical music. Anthems in our catalog represent a variety of styles and levels of difficulty for all kinds of choirs. The hymn settings with brass, timpani and organ inspire congregations to new heights of singing. The settings of the Eucharist are in demand across the country and have been well received by congregations in churches large and small. The new hymn tunes present familiar words in a fresh way.
